Dance season is officially in full swing here! I have been busily working on filling an order of 17 tutus for the Piscataquis Regional YMCA. These are elastic waist tutus with eight layers of bright pink tulle each. I am finding little bits of tulle stuck to my clothes and being dragged all around my house! The basic tutus are finished. I am currently working on closing up the backs with monofilament (so it won’t show from the stage). The final step will be to add some wide ribbon to the inside waistband which will cover up the serged edge. I am really looking forward to seeing these mini dancers all dressed up!
Along with the YMCA, I will be working with Stage Presence for Dancers again this year. This is my fourth year working with Heather and her amazing dancers! This year I will be taking an existing costume, removing the sewn-on skirt, and reattaching it with a separating zipper. This will enable the girls to wear this with or without the skirt for two separate and unique looks. There are 30 of these costumes, so my zipper foot will be getting a lot of use over the next month!
Dance season is my favorite time of year. I love being able to work with the dance instructors and students to create costumes that will bring their production to life. If you are interested in having costumes made for your dance studio, please contact me to set up a consultation.
